Calcium plays a vital role in the formation of healthy teeth and gums. So today on Cow Appreciation Day, try to implement some dairy into your daily routine. Swap out the candy for some yogurt or cottage cheese.

Research done by Nutrition Australia states that milk and dairy products can actually reduce tooth decay. Not only do they contain calcium and phosphorus, but also “proteins called caseins, which combine together to form a protective film on the enamel – or the surface of your teeth.”
So what does this mean for tooth decay? The coating helps to prevent your teeth from incurring decay. Calcium helps strengthen and repair tooth enamel that has started to dissolve due to acid attacks.
Pick Milk Over Soda
If the kids are bothering you for something to drink, consider milk. Limit the number of sugary drinks.

If you’re looking to add more calcium to your diet, consider purchasing milk, cheese or yogurt. Other dairy foods like brown rice, oranges, cabbage, beans and broccoli are full of calcium. For Vitamin D, get out in the sun! For phosphorous, look at cereals, almonds, meat, eggs, etc.
