How Stress Can Affect your Oral Health

Stress is a common condition that can affect your overall health, including your oral health! It can contribute to some oral health problems such as:

Teeth grinding – this is a condition in which you grind or clench your teeth. There are various causes of teeth grinding but daily stress may be the biggest trigger. Teeth grinding can lead to headaches, jaw pain and permanent damage to the teeth.

Canker Sores – Canker sores occur often during times of stress. They can appear inside the mouth on the tongue, inside the cheek areas, lips and gum line. Other than irritation and discomfort, these sores do not pose any health risk.

Dry Mouth – Stress can cause you to lack saliva in your mouth. When you don’t have enough saliva, many oral health problems can happen such as getting infections from bacteria and experiencing trouble swallowing or digesting food.
