It Is National Chocolate Covered Anything Day!

chocolate bark

Chocolate covered peanuts, chocolate covered raisins, and chocolate covered bacon – this is your day! Chocolate is a feel-good treat. Have you ever seen a person frown while eating chocolate? Probably not. So, on Chocolate Covered Anything Day, be adventurous.

Chocolate & Your Teeth

  • First, chocolate stains your teeth.
  • Secondly, eating too much chocolate weakens your enamel
  • Thirdly, a lot of chocolates today are full of sugar. Manufacturers will add anything to make it taste good.

If you’re going to have some chocolate, rinse your mouth out with water or chew sugarless gum.

Milk Chocolate

For all the milk chocolate lovers out there, it’s not great for your teeth. Unfortunately, milk chocolate contains more sugar than dark. It’s also raw and unprocessed.

Anyone can make chocolate! All you need is chocolate liquor, cocoa butter, sugar, flavorings and sweetened milk. According to How Stuff Works, “Bars of fine milk chocolate typically have a cacao content of between 30 percent and 45 percent, while less-expensive products may have considerably less.”

Dark Chocolate

Dark chocolate contains polyphenols. According to Healthline, polyphenols “neutralize organisms that cause bad breath and they can prevent some sugars form turning into acid, which can break down the enamel of your teeth and cause tooth decay and cavities.”

Dark chocolate contains flavonoids, which help with tooth decay. Dark chocolate also contains antioxidants, which help fight gum disease.

Minimize the Impact

  • First, drink plenty of water. Water can minimize some of the harmful effects of sugar, preventing decay.
  • Second, eat chocolate with meals.
  • Finally, brush after eating.
