Kale – The Powerful Teeth Cleaner

bushel of kale

Most people like to celebrate National Ice Cream Day or National Pizza Day. One would never think to celebrate National Kale Day. It’s not something that’s on someone’s mind! Believe it or not, kale is healthy for your overall health and teeth.

The Greener, The Better

Leafy greens like kale are high in fiber and low in calories. The fiber content in kale helps scrub away food debris and plaque while you eat them. Kale also contains calcium and B vitamins. Calcium strengthens your teeth and B vitamins help prevent gingivitis.

Instead of putting lettuce on your sandwich today, swap it out for some shredded kale or spinach. Better yet, make kale wraps with carrots for one of the best natural teeth cleaners.

Incorporate Lots of Veggies on National Kale Day

Not a kale fan? That’s okay! Take raw carrots as a work snack because it increases saliva production in your mouth, which reduces your risk of cavities. Top your salad with a few slices of raw carrots.

Celery helps scrape food particles and bacteria away from your teeth. It’s also a good source of vitamins A and C, which helps your gums. Make celery tasty but topping it with some low-fat cream cheese – YUM!

Stay Away from Acidic Foods/Drinks

First, sodas contain a high amount of sugar that interact with bacteria in your mouth to form acid that attack your teeth. Drinking soda not only causes erosion but also cavities. Cavities develop over time in people who drink sodas regularly.

Second, fruit juices contain large amounts of sugar that can contribute to enamel erosion and tooth damage.

Lastly, sugary snacks such as candies and cookies are delicious, but they can harm your teeth. Avoid sticky and chewy sweets.

Remember that If you must consume any of these drinks or foods, do it in moderation and practice a good oral health care routine afterwards.
