Your Eyes Love Pumpkin

Tis the season for trick or treating, costumes, and pumpkins. Believe it or not, pumpkins are great for your vision!

Pumpkins benefit your eye health because they are:

  • High in zinc, which keeps your retina healthy.
  • Rich in vitamins, which helps protect the cornea, the surface of the eye, and allows you to see under conditions of low light.
  • Great source of lutein and zeaxanthin, which is like a sunscreen for your eyes.

Keep in mind that not all pumpkin treats are good for you. Drinking a large pumpkin spice latte or indulging in a batch of pumpkin cookies won’t help your eyes or your health.

Consider baking pumpkin seeds, making a pumpkin smoothie, pumpkin soup, or roasted pumpkin.
